Bright Futures Scholarship 2022-2023
Bright Futures Scholarship: offered by the Florida Department of Education, are financial-aid program that helps students pay for their college education in the state of Florida.
Bright Futures is a Florida scholarship program that helps students pay for college. Florida Academic Scholars, Medallion Scholars, and Silver Scholars are different types of Bright Future scholarship programs.
Each Bright Future program has its own requirements that must be met in order to receive a Bright Future scholarship. Once requirements are met and a student receives their award then there are several ways they can use it towards their tuition.
The Bright Future scholarships can be used in many ways including attending an out-of-state university
The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program has two components: Academic Scholars Award and Medallion Scholars Award. The program is available for both in-state and out-of-state students, who must have a minimum of an A average to be eligible.
Bright Futures Scholarship Programs:
Types of bright futures scholarships:
1. Florida Academic Scholars (FAS)
This is the most competitive and important Bright Futures Scholarship. Florida Academic Scholar (FAS) beneficiaries might get support for a limit of 120 semester hours toward the completion of a first baccalaureate degree for as long as five years after high school graduation.
The Academic Top Scholars Award will likewise be given to the Florida Academic Scholar with the most highly Academic ranking in the country.
The Florida Academic Scholars will get an honor equivalent to 100% of tuition cost and other various charges in the fall, spring, and summer semesters for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Extra charges, for example, cover activities and service costs, Health expenses, athletic expenses, financial guide expenses, capital improvement charges, campus access/transportation charges, technology charges, and tuition cost differential charges. 2. Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS)
This is less competitive than the FAS, this scholarship has a high number of exam score and GPA criteria.
FMS beneficiaries might receive money for as long as five years after high school graduation for a maximum limit of 120 semester hours toward the achievement of a first baccalaureate degree.
Florida Medallion Scholars will get a scholarship worth 75% of their tuition cost and applicable fall, spring, and summer expenses.
Activity and service expenses, health costs, athletic expenses, financial guide charges, capital improvement expenses, campus access/transportation charges, Technology charges, and tuition cost differential expenses and all others applicable.
The $300 educational cost payment won’t be granted to Florida Medallion Scholars.
Bright Futures Scholarship | Funding:
- To help with the additional costs of training, the Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) will receive a stipend of $300 for each spring and summer session. Tuition and fees will be charged to students attending a public university.
- Beginning in the summer semester, FAS students are eligible to receive an award to cover tuition and applicable fees for summer sessions.
- For the Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS), 75 percent of the tuition and applicable fees will be covered by the scholarship they receive. Beginning in the summer semester of 2022, FMS students will be able to receive an award to cover tuition and applicable fees for summer sessions.
- Activities and services, health, athletic, financial aid, capital improvement/campus access/transportation/technological/tuition differential fees are all included in the applicable fees for FAS and FMS students.
Bright Futures Scholarship | Eligibility Criteria:
- Bright Futures requires a minimum GPA of 3.0 in non-elective high school courses.
- Enroll in a single career and technical education program for at least three credits.
- A minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 in career education courses is required.
- Complete at least 30 hours of community service.
- Must obtain the required minimum scores in one of the following tests:

Bright Futures Scholarship | How to Apply:
Student must apply for the award by presenting the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) by August 31 after high school graduation. SEE HERE
NOTE: To be qualified for the Bright Futures Scholarship, you should choose “University of Central Florida” as your post-secondary institution on the Initial Student Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA).
In the event that you have picked another university on the FFAA and want to go to UCF, you must change your institution name choice to “UCF.”
To change the name of your post-secondary institution, you need to go to the Florida Department of Education’s Office of Student Financial Assistance (OSFA) site or contact 1-888-827-2004.
