DESY Summer Student Program in Germany (Fully Funded) 2024
The DESY Summer Program 2024, held in Germany, is a unique training opportunity for bachelor’s and master’s students for 7 weeks from July 16 to September 5. This program, open to participants from all countries, offers research experience in different fields at the DESY laboratories in Hamburg and Zeuthen, Berlin.
The program includes interactive on-ground and online projects and English lectures available via live streaming, allowing students to improve their research skills and enhance their subject-matter knowledge.
DESY is distinguished by providing a high-quality educational experience, as it annually receives about 3,000 researchers from more than 40 countries, benefiting from its unique accelerators and detectors.
IELTS/TOEFL is not required for application, making the program available to a greater number of international students.

Program Benefits
- All the selected participants will receive:
- Accommodation allowance: Participants in the DESY summer program are given a subsistence allowance of €1,200 per month.
- Special allowance for Hamburg residents: For participants coming from Hamburg and surrounding areas, a subsistence allowance of €850 per month is given.
- Covering living expenses: The program includes covering living expenses for each participating student.
- Visa Invitation Letter: DESY will send an official letter of invitation to assist in obtaining the visa for participants who need it.
- Travel Expenses Coverage: The program also includes travel expenses coverage for participants.
The DESY program covers a wide range of different research areas and activities, which include:
- Photon science
- Physics of elementary particles and accelerators
- Astronomical particle physics
Research projects within the DESY program are divided into several types of activities, including:
- Practical work on detectors or experimental equipment
- Physical data analysis
- Software development
- Theoretical studies to explain physical phenomena.

Eligibility Criteria
Academic experience:
Complete at least three years of full-time study at university in the field of physics, computing, or related disciplines.
Current academic stage:
The applicant must have recently obtained a bachelor’s degree and be studying for a master’s degree.
Previous failure to benefit from the program:
Applicants who have participated in the DESY Summer Program in the past may not apply again.
English proficiency:
Applicants must be able to communicate fluently in English.
Computer skills:
Possessing good computer skills.
