Applications are open for the Zayed Sustainability Prize 2024. This international prize is an excellent opportunity for changemakers to showcase their innovative sustainability solutions.
By recognizing pioneering solutions and technologies that can change the world, the Zayed Sustainability Prize has rewarded innovators and visionaries whose achievements have furthered the global proliferation of innovative and inspirational sustainability solutions.
The Zayed prize is a global award from the UAE, acknowledging and incentivizing small and medium enterprises (SMEs), nonprofit organizations (NPOs), and global high schools for their impactful, innovative, and inspiring sustainable solutions.

Eligibility Criteria for Zayed Sustainability Prize :

HEALTH:

This category recognizes organizations that have demonstrated innovative, impactful, and inspiring sustainability solutions in the areas of health, including, but not limited to:

  • Providing access to basic and affordable health care.
  • Ensure access to health care for mothers and newborns.
  • Eliminate epidemics (AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, etc.).
  • Prevention and treatment of infectious and non-communicable waterborne diseases.
  • Reducing diseases caused by pollution, hazardous chemicals and pollution.
  • Organizations must also demonstrate a clear vision and long-term plan to further implement their solution, increase their impact, inspire others to follow and promote human and sustainable development.
  • To be eligible for this category, organizations must be small or medium-sized businesses (SME) or non-profit organizations (NPO).

FOOD:

This category recognizes organizations that have demonstrated innovative, impactful, and inspiring sustainability solutions in the areas of food, including, but not limited to:

  • Reducing hunger and malnutrition.
  • Increase the productivity of agriculture or other food processing.
  • Promoting sustainable food production.
  • Organizations must also demonstrate a clear vision and long-term plan to further implement their solution, increase their impact, inspire others to follow and promote human and sustainable development.
  • To be eligible for this category, organizations must be small or medium-sized businesses (SME) or non-profit organizations (NPO).

ENERGY:

This category recognizes organizations that have demonstrated innovative, impactful, and inspiring sustainability solutions in the areas of energy that include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure access to clean, affordable and reliable energy.
  • Increase clean energy production.
  • Improve energy efficiency.
  • Introducing new forms of clean energy or other technological innovations.
  • Organizations must also demonstrate a clear vision and long-term plan to further implement their solution, increase their impact, inspire others to follow and promote human and sustainable development.
  • To be eligible for this category, organizations must be small or medium-sized businesses (SME) or non-profit organizations (NPO).

WATER:

This category recognizes organizations that can demonstrate innovative, impactful, and inspiring sustainability solutions in the areas of water that include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure access to safe and affordable drinking water.
  • Ensure access to sanitation and hygiene.
  • Increase water use efficiency.
  • Improve water quality.
  • Organizations must also demonstrate a clear vision and long-term plan to further implement their solution, increase their impact, inspire others to follow and promote human and sustainable development.
  • To be eligible for this category, organizations must be small or medium-sized businesses (SMEs) or non-profit organizations (NPO).

GLOBAL HIGH SCHOOLS

The global high school’s category recognizes high schools or high schools from six global geographic regions that propose innovative, impactful, and inspiring sustainability projects in the areas of health, food, energy, and/or water.

  • The proposed project can be in one area (eg, water) or a combination of areas (eg, energy, water, food, health).
  • The aim of the award is to encourage students to develop and implement their own sustainable ideas and is not intended for management projects or educational reforms in the school.
  • The award in this category is not given for previous achievements but will allow students of the winning schools to implement sustainability projects in their schools.
    These student-led projects should demonstrate innovative ways to address sustainability challenges and motivate students to participate in sustainable development.

Benefits of the Zayed Sustainability Prize:

The total prize fund is USD $5.9 million for Zayd Sustainability Prize is distributed as follows:

  • Health USD $1,000,000
  • Food USD $1,000,000
  • Energy USD $1,000,000
  • Water USD $1,000,000
  • Climate Action USD $1,000,000
  • Global High Schools USD $900,000
    (divided amongst six schools; awarding each up to USD $150,000)

How to Apply for the Zayed Sustainability Prize ?

  • You can access the application portal through the Zayed Sustainability Prize homepage or by clicking on the “Apply Now” button available on the award website, which will direct you directly to the official portal to begin the application process.
  • You must use your email to create an account or log in if you have previously registered. This will enable you to save your progress and modify your application before final submission.
  • Fill out all the required fields in the application form, and be sure to attach all supporting documents and information that prove your project is worthy of the award based on the specified criteria: impact, innovation, and inspiration.
  • Your entry will undergo a rigorous evaluation process to ensure it aligns with the award criteria and has potential sustainability impact.
  • After the initial evaluation, each entry is carefully reviewed by the selection committee to ensure that the best are selected to advance to the final judging stage.
  • The jury makes final decisions by reaching consensus, relying on the comprehensiveness and strength of each entry.
  • It is important to note the application deadline and ensure that you submit your application before it ends to ensure your entry is accepted.

The deadline to apply for the Zayed Sustainability Prize is 23 June 2024.
